John W. Ingram, Jr., 84, of Hagerstown MD, lost his 15 year-long battle against multiple cancers on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at the Washington County Hospital.

Born in Washington County, January 25, 1926, he was the son of the late John W. and the late Virginia French Ingram.

He was a 1950 graduate of the University of Maryland, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in Japan with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Following graduation from college, he spent most of his career as an aeronautical engineer in the defense industry working primarily on military programs for the U.S. Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine Corps while employed at Fairchild, Boeing Vertol, and Martin Marietta. His last employment was at Rohr prior to his retirement July 1, 1993. He had worked on six different weapons systems which were later used with great success in the air campaign against Iraq during the Persian Gulf War in 1991.

He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.

He was a former member of the 9&90 Club, Hagerstown Exchange Club, Pegasus Club, Interval International, and the Rotary Club of Long Meadows.

He was a member of the American Legion, Morris Frock Post No. 42, World War II Round Table, Washington County Historical Society, Elks Lodge No 378, and Fountain Head Country Club at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Joanna Ford Ingram; one son, Jonathan Ford Ingram and his wife, Suzanne Helm Ingram of Fairfax, VA; two grandchildren, Andrew Scott Ingram, Alexandra Ford Ingram; several nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews; and a sister, Delores V. Miller of Johnstown, NY.

He was preceded in death by a beloved sister, Barbara I. Francis of Cape Cod, MA.

In celebration of John's life, the family will receive friends at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD 21742, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2010. Service and interment will be private.
