"I got to know Tom thru my Father-In-Law, Retired Chief John Hall. Tom was a guest in our home on several occasions once my parents-in-law moved in with us.
He always had an amusing anecdote or an insightful story when John needed one in his final days. I could tell by simply looking at them that they had a deep friendship and regarded each other highly.
Although my father-in-law never let Tom knew his stories brought him amusement, he always retold them and would laugh.
Tom's family, the community and the Fire Department has lost a not only a valuable asset, but I loving, caring family member as well.
Rest in peace Tom, and may you now be able to deliver a bit of your own torment to John."
- John Reamy Hagerstown, Maryland

"I wish to express my sympathy to Tom's wife and family. Thankfully, I did get to speak to him at church on 2/21. I always enjoyed our conversations about current life experiences, past, historical related to WWII. He was one who was positive, and a joy to know and talk with during the past several years.
I am unable to be in Hagerstown for the viewing and service since I will be working in DC but will be thinking of you now and in the weeks to come.

"Carol - our sympathy expressed in this impersonal way since we are leaving to watch grandchild #7 in CT early tomorrow. Trevor is Mike and Emily's 2 year old while they go to CA for a wedding, etc. You know we would be with you if we could. Your father's obituary was well done - I learned more about all of his wonderful accomplishments besides raising three good children. We will be in touch when we return next week. Carl"

"Dear Dottie, Carol Ann, Nancy, and Todd, we remember when the kids were growing up there in the neighborhood, it seems far too long ago, and I still smile as I remember......but time has taken care of all that, and here we are to express our thoughts and prayers for you, and your family. I am glad your family can surround you and love you, and perhaps you will know the 'peace of God that passes all understanding.' We do not always understand, but we welcome His peace when sorrow comes. Tom was always kind, and throw up his hand with a wave and that's a good memory. 'I have covered you with the shadow of My hand.' Isaiah 51:16 Just know we are surrounding you in prayer. Lovingly, Anne and Paul"

"Mrs. Cochrane and family,
Our thoughts, prayers, and sincere sympathy are with all of you at this difficult time. Mr. Cochrane loved all of you so.Of all of his accomplishments,it was you, that he was most proud. He spent countless hours out in the yard talking with us. His favorite topic was all of you. We will miss those visits with him greatly. He was always very fatherly to us. When we were expecting our first child, Grayden,Mr. Cochrane made sure we knew that his red station wagon was ready to take us to the hospital at any time of day or night. Mr. Cochrane was a good, kind, and loving man. He was a man of great charcter and a role model to all who knew him. To us he was a great neighbor and a special friend. We loved him and he loved us in return. We are thankful for the blessing of his friendship. He will be greatly missed by many. The neighborhood will never feel the same without him.
With much sympathy,
Al and Jane Scibilia"

"It was my pleasure to meet and know Tom. We served on the Board of Directors of the Pen-Mar Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America.Getting to know him was an education. His military experiences were admired by those of us lucky enough to know of his service in WW-II and the Korean War. Tom will be missed but, will remain in the hearts and minds of those of us who were fortunate enough to know him."Old solders never die, they just fade away".
